Your Metabolic Health Determines You Being Overweight
Your Metabolic Health Determines You Being Overweight
Author: Gen Wright
Everyday we turn on the television, flip through a magazine or check out a website and find someone talking about the ‘metabolism’. But what do we actually know about it? And how do we know if is performing at the right level that it is supposed to. And most importantly, can we actually speed it up if it isn’t? Our metabolism is essentially our body’s engine and is responsible for many functions among them turning the food we eat into fuel or energy so we can move around and remain alive. Every decade as we get older we lose around 10% of our metabolic power. Unfortunately this starts to happen from the mid 20’s and the reason for this is that we lose around one half pound of muscle tissue each year because we do not do enough strength building and maintaining activity to retain our strength. Thanks to that inactive desk job, family commitments, and addicting line up of must-see television programs our activity levels drop off drastically as we get older and most of us are doing way less physical activity than we should be. The outcome of this usually is that our body composition changes unfavorably (body fat/muscle ratio) and we become overweight. This exposes us to many diseases and health risks as well as faster aging. Although we can not actually put our hands on our metabolism and turn it up like a thermostat, the good news is that by using proper exercise and nutrition strategies we can speed it up. The speed of our metabolism plays a major role in body weight control and is the difference between becoming overweight or staying at a normal body weight. When you understand how they fit together it will give you access to more effective tools to lose excess body fat. The biggest tool of all that has the most impact on your metabolism is to get started on a proper exercise program made up of mostly strength training exercise. If you have not done anything like this before make sure you seek the help of a fitness professional so you start receiving your results as quickly as possible. You may be young and have not yet experienced the downward slide of your metabolism and the corresponding increase in body weight, which is great. But it is important to start today to avoid waking up 10 years down the road and wondering what happened to your youth and vitality along with your slim body. If you are older and your current lifestyle has negatively impacted your body, strength, health and well-being, get back on track today and take control of how you will continue to age. Making sure you have a healthy metabolism has many benefits that will help you maintain a high level of wellness throughout the years. You will be able to handle stress, be resistant to sickness and disease and enjoy physical vitality and mental vigor along with lots of energy and stamina to enjoy your life as you work, play, eat, and sleep with ease. But allow your metabolism to slow down and become impaired like a dwindling old engine and it will interfere with your good health.

You Cannot Have Good Health Without Body Strength
You Cannot Have Good Health Without Body Strength

But the parameters of this ancient system have changed as our modern world has done away with hard physical activity in an effort to make our lives more comfortable and convenient. Comfortable and convenient they may be but we end up with a big problem if our activity levels slow down. The human body thinks that there is no longer a family to feed therefore there is no need to keep things strong and functioning well if they are not needed. The ultimate efficiency – the old use it or lose it scenario to make room for younger and stronger beings. Without the necessary stimulation of growth and repair hormones that vigorous activity creates, muscles grow weak, shrink and become smaller reducing the efficiency of the metabolism (the body’s engine) triggering a journey into a downward health spiral. The rate of muscle tissue loss is around one half pound per year starting from the mid 20’s. This rate doubles after age 50 and by age 65 you could have lost as much as 80 percent of it if you have not worked hard to keep it. Any wonder 66 percent of people over the age of 75 cannot lift a ten pound weight above their head. This slow decrease of muscle tissue loss over many years and decades is hardly noticeable, but little by little it is happening. Suddenly you get to middle age and find your strength has all but disappeared and your body has changed its shape, lost its tone and become soft and flabby. You may not take too much notice of your muscles after all they are largely unseen but, if you have been inactive or sedentary you will be losing more than precious muscle tissue. Your energy levels will dwindle, your personal appearance, the way your body and mind functions and performs and your entire quality of life is undermined, along with your ability to fight disease and illness. But it doesn’t have to be like this. You can take an active role and stop this happening to you regardless of your age. How your body functions is to a great extent determined by your body composition (muscle/fat ratio).Negative changes in this ratio are the number one factor in your general health and wellbeing. All of this can be avoided by 2-3 sessions each week of a proper exercise program that contains mostly strength training exercise. If it is set up correctly and you are taught the right level of intensity (degree of effort needed) you don’t need to spend much time as this type of exercise program is so effective results come quickly. In just a few short months you can increase strength and energy levels so much you will scarcely believe how good you feel. This will mean that you will have more stamina and ‘get up and go’ so you can squeeze every little bit of enjoyment out of life. You will wonder why you didn’t get started years ago.

Who Said Losing Weight Is Hard?
Who Said Losing Weight Is Hard?

If you have become overweight and do not do enough proper exercise you are in fact losing an opportunity to have your metabolism (your body’s engine) get rid of the excess weight naturally for you. This means if you take a little time and put in a little effort you can speed up your fat burning machinery so it will slowly but surely burn off the fat and use it for fuel for your increased energy requirements. The simple fact is if you are overweight you are eating more food than your body is burning off through movement and activity. The more overweight you become the slower your metabolism will get which means the longer you leave the problem the harder it will become to ever get back your slim trim body. You might even say it doesn’t matter, that you are quite happy with your weight and your body size. But if someone came along and offered you a chance to be slim again with a click of the fingers it is highly likely you would take that opportunity. Increasing the speed of our metabolism is the easiest way to lose weight without the horror of restrictive food dieting. Instead of starving if off (which doesn’t work anyway) consider improving your metabolic efficiency and have it do the work for you. The number one way to do this is to increase the condition of your muscles. Your metabolic rate is determined by your body composition (muscle tissue/fat ratio). If you are overweight it is likely you have muscle wasting from not doing enough strength building and maintaining activity. Then your fuel burning becomes less efficient and more fat gets piled into the storage cells. So the simple and logical thing to do is to reverse this situation and boost your fat burning machinery by working your muscles. Since the condition of your muscles is absolutely vital to lose weight you need to understand that a strength training program is the only activity that will do this. Forget your long, slow low intensity activities like walking, jogging or cycling as these do not work your muscles through their full ranges of movement under a load. If the thought of doing this type of activity (strength training) is not appealing to you, you had better get used to the fact you will continue to gain weight along with suffering from low energy, lower than normal self esteem and are exposed to the very real risk of serious disease somewhere down the track. Surely it is much easier to take the time to have a proper exercise program set up by a fitness professional and get started on the journey back to a strong, lean, healthy body with your fat burning machinery in peak condition. Apart from losing excess weight you will also benefit from having loads more energy, looking and feeling years (maybe even decades) younger, and protecting yourself from killer diseases that could well be sneaking up on you without you even knowing it. It is without a single doubt that it is worth making time for a proper exercise program in your life. Once set up it and done right, just two sessions each week with have a positive impact on your metabolism and ultimately your health, wellness, vitality, energy and the way you look and feel for the rest of your life.

Condoms And Clean Needles
Condoms And Clean Needles

The basics of HIV prevention have been known for many years and sporadic reports reach consistent conclusions regarding the most efficient ways of preventing the disease and therefore restricting its spread from person to person. The number of people who live with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) remains on the increase, affecting approximately 730,000 people in the 27 member states of the European Union. The European Union said recently that a “correct and consistent use of condoms remains the most effective means of HIV prevention through sexual transmission, and provision of sterile needles and injecting equipment and substitution treatment are the most effective means of HIV prevention through injecting drug use,” Whilst this is proven fact, a number of European nations are staunchly Catholic and therefore the advice is contentious in such countries as Ireland, Italy and Poland. The Vatican has long held the view that sexual abstinence is the ideal method and whilst completely effective it could also be argued that it is also unrealistic as an option amongst young people. The recommendation to use clean needles is also controversial amongst those who maintain that this policy simply encourages the use of illegal drugs. Again one might argue that this is simply ignoring the blunt truth that a major cause of the spread of the AIDS virus is sharing unclean needles and that therefore there is a simple solution to prevent infection and spread of the disease. The EU Commission continues to favour a three point attack on preventing the spread of AIDS which includes improved education, improving testing and targeting high risk groups such as intravenous drugs users, homosexuals and immigrants. The disease still has considerable stigma attached and this tends to inhibit awareness campaigns and the willingness to undergo testing despite the known lethality rates amongst those infected. It is thought that around 30% of those with HIV are completely unaware of the fact and this makes the spread of the disease almost inevitable if safe sex is not practiced, such as the correct use of condoms and regular testing, particularly amongst high risk groups. Carriers have also suffered from discrimination due to a lack of education about AIDS and how it can be spread, despite repeated attempts by many European governments to deliver high profile and expensive education campaigns. The disease has been fought by individual governments and it is thought that some members of the European Union should combine resources and information to help prevent further spread of the virus across member states. Some estimates put the number of infected people at over 1 million in EU countries in the next five years and some governments have made available specific funds to try and push the number of infections into a decline.

What Are You Doing Today To Stay Out Of The Disability Zone?
What Are You Doing Today To Stay Out Of The Disability Zone?

Getting older is one of today’s hottest topics and many products; procedures and pills promise that we can have a better aging experience if we use them. While we should be wary of these many claims that promise eternal youth there are some proven ways we can stay younger and stronger for longer. As people get older their number one wish is that most of them have is that they want to extend their youthfulness as long as possible and continue to enjoy full function, mobility and independence. The problem the world faces with regards to older people are the unprecedented increases in the costs of taking care of the frail and ill. This leaves many older people with the fear of a lack of availability and affordability of long term care if they should need it. Many of these same people do not seem to be aware or simply ignore the fact that there is a lot they can do to stop themselves needing this sort of care and remaining fully functional – they should keep themselves strong. That is to take responsibility for their own health and wellness and at the top of that list is physical strength and fitness. We have known for decades that people who lead sedentary lifestyles are not only shortening their lifespan they are risking their health span as well. They risk entering a ‘disability zone’ in the last third of their life unable to take care of themselves. Sitting around all day, failing to exert oneself physically is a very dangerous thing to do and is the complete opposite to what the human body needs to stay functional and strong. The loss of precious muscle tissue is the greatest threat to someone who is inactive and if you combine that with the aging process you have a ticking time bomb. The latest research suggests that inactivity not only makes people more vulnerable to loss of function and disease, but actually speeds up the aging process itself. At this point you may say but ‘I am active enough, I walk, work in the garden, do the housework and am always busy and on the go”. But the facts are none of these normal daily activities build or maintain muscle strength in a way that matters. They are simply not intense enough to stimulate the ‘growth and repair’ hormones that are only triggered when movement is vigorous. Our modern day lives simply do not have the level of activity or ‘hard work’ that we are built to do. We have to add it in with an intentional exercise program that contains mostly strength training exercise if we wish to remain able to take care of ourselves. Do yourself a big favor, get some help from a fitness professional and get started right away on a proper exercise program no matter if you are 30 or 90.You will benefit from an increased quality of life that you will wish you could have experienced long ago. It will also go a long way into making sure you remain independent and well so you can enjoy a long health span that matches your long life span.

The Only Effective Way To Fight Father Time
The Only Effective Way To Fight Father Time
Author: Gen Wright
We all recognize the obvious signs of aging like graying hair and wrinkles but what about the not so obvious signs of Father Time talking its toll? There are things happening inside our body that are also showing signs of slowing down and becoming less efficient. The metabolic engine that controls every system and process in the body especially turning our food into energy is the final switch that the aging process ‘turns off’. This has the disastrous effect of allowing excess body fat to accumulate, the dreaded ‘middle age spread’ and combines this with low energy levels that hastens our decline. In order to flip your metabolic switch back to the ‘on position’ you need to stimulate the release of the growth and repair hormones that can restore a more youthful body along with all of its systems and processes. For your body to do this it needs to be told that its strength is needed by simply performing regular muscle maintaining activity. Lost muscle tissue needs to be rebuilt if you with to remain in good physical condition as the years pass by. But the fact is as much as one half pound of muscle tissue is lost each year after the mid 20’s unless proper exercise is done to stop it. It is vital that the right exercise program is performed at the right level of intensity (degree of effort used). A brisk walk in the park or 20 minutes on the treadmill or bike will raise your heart rate, but it will not help you release growth and repair hormones that will give an anti aging effect. What is needed is strength training exercise. Short sustained bursts of activity that challenge and create an oxygen deficit in the muscles is the most appropriate form of activity to increase the metabolic rate (the speed of our body’s engine) so it can burn more fat as fuel. At the same time, when muscles contract and relax during multiple sets of strength training resistance exercise, the body is stimulated to produce significant levels of ‘youth’ hormones to repair and renew the tissues that have been challenged. Healthy, new strong tissue replaces old worn old cells and tissue which is just what is needed to rejuvenate the entire body. Strength training exercise is such a powerful anti aging tool it can reverse muscle and bone loss and make our bodies work better and become leaner. It can also restore your looks, health and energy to youthful levels. Your brain will also be powered up and focus, concentration and memory improved. Make sure you have a fitness professional help you get started so you not only do the exercises correctly but you put in the right amount of effort to get results. Your program also needs to be upgraded regularly and your progress monitored. Without a doubt this type of exercise program is the most important tool to help you fight the telltale signs of aging both inside the body and on the outside as well. So, take that Father Time.
